Our volunteers play important social and supportive roles in the wards working one-on-one with
patients and/or assisting the families of patients. Here are some of the areas you might like
to consider;
- Assist in the Allan Bean Centre Library (Burwood Hospital)
- Take the Mobile Library trolley around all wards & departments
- Assist Brain Injury Unit with speech therapy & activity sessions
- Assist with recreation sessions and outings for patients in Spinal Unit
- Visitor / support person for patients and families in the Spinal Unit
- Computer tutoring / support for staff, volunteers & patients
- Assisting in the Joinery Rehabilitation workshop
- Hydrotherapy Pool assistance
- Take the Mobile Shop around all wards & departments
- Mobile Shop stock-taking & clerical duties
- Assisting in the Burwood Hospital gardens
- Activities assistant at Club304 – Burwood Hospital’s elderly daycare
- Driver for outpatients requiring transport to and from hospital appointments / rehabilitation
- Assisting with the Spinal Network newsletter
- Travis Café assistant
- Readers / Scribes
- Assisting patients with meals
- Volunteer Ward Visitor
Volunteers can work in almost any area of the Burwood Hospital campus. New roles
are being developed all the time so if you have ideas on where volunteers could
work, contact the Volunteer Coordinator.
