The New Zealand Spinal Trust is organising the inaugural Push 2 Pier challenge on in order to raise funds for many of our programmes here at the Burwood Spinal Unit. We are calling the event the "Halligan Memorial Push 2 Pier" in honour of the late Ross Halligan, a previous Burwood Spinal Unit recreation officer, who just prior to his death late last year was an important member of our organising committee.
Starting at 10.30am from the Burwood Spinal Unit the route follows Mairehau Rd, turns left into Beach Rd, and then goes along Marine parade to finish at New Brighton Pier. See the map of the Route here...
The Push to Pier event will be suitable for all ages and levels of fitness and involves a 6km run, walk or push for competitors in wheelchairs and for their able-bodied friends and families. All entrants will get 'goodie' bags at the end and there will be food stalls, massage tents and entertainment - including a visit from the Red Bull girls!
Enter as an individual or join the Crusaders (Rugby) and the Cougars (Basketball) in the 6 stage corporate wheelchair relay. Each leg of the relay will be 1 kilometre long and will be done in a wheelchair provided by Melrose Wheelchairs.
