Computers
The computers can be booked for periods of up to 1 hour at a time. However preference
will be given to patients, their families, whanau, caregivers and staff, should they be waiting to access a computer.
Library staff may request a user vacate a computer to facilitate this.
Printing and photocopying facilities are available for a small donation.
Internet Use
The ABC Library offers Internet access in good faith, believing that
it can provide useful, reliable and enriching information. We can help
you evaluate the information you find. Please ask a member of the Library
Staff for assistance.
Unlike most resources within the ABC Library, the Internet is an interactive
medium that is being changed continuously.
Information on the Internet may be inaccurate, illegal or considered
controversial by some users. The ABC Library is not responsible for
changes that may occur in the sites.
Web sites visited will:
- reflect the philosophy of the Allan Bean Centre’s
role in the area of rehabilitation
- provide access to resources that will support the needs
and interests of library users
- cover as broad a range of interests as possible
The ABC Library reserves the right to prevent access to offensive material.
For reasons of security you cannot:
- install or download software
- view or download pornographic or offensive material
- send or forward abusive, offensive or objectionable emails.
- use Internet chat rooms without specific permission from the ABC Library staff.
User Behaviour
The Allan Bean Centre Library is a unique resource for patients, their families,
whanau, caregivers, staff, students and researchers. In order to ensure the comfort and
well-being of all library users sharing the facilities and services provided, we have a
simple Library User Behaviour Policy:
- Library users will consider the comfort, safety and needs of others and generally
behave in a manner which will not disturb or offend other library users.
- Children under the age of 12 are welcome in the ABC Library but must be accompanied
at all times by a parent, guardian, or other responsible person. The responsibility is with the care-giver, not ABC staff, and includes all their activities, including the Internet.
- No smoking or eating in the ABC Library
- Library materials, furniture and equipment will be treated with
care and consideration by library users.
- Library users will follow the directions given by Library staff
in relation to use of services and facilities.
General
General conditions of use of all ABC Library facilities & equipment:
- The computers in the ABC library are provided to facilitate
research and learning in rehabilitation
- The computers are available for users to connect to networks of
resources outside the ABC Library
- The Internet enhances resources already held by the ABC Library
Failure to comply with the policies may result in the removal of library privileges.
The decision of the Staff member on duty at the time will be final.
